That the opponents and critics of the Law of Attraction doesn’t work by making it seem like each person is a bubble in the universe and that their intentions are self contained in that bubble. In other words, I can’t tell you how many times a critic will say something like “Oh, so you intended to be in that traffic jam” or “so you caused that accident to come into existence by using the Law of Attraction”. Are they really that ignorant or misguided?

The Law of Attraction can probably be best understood if I use a car/highway analogy (yes, I’ve been in tech support too long, I can compare anything to cars).

The first thing to understand is that you’re not alone on the road. Maybe you are for stretches, but eventually you’re going to come across other drivers that are going to influence how you’re driving. Maybe at this particular point, you’re the only one on this stretch of highway though. Everything can seem to be going your way, and it probably is. Now if you haven’t been maintaining your car, (i.e. keeping your unconscious/subconscious mind in good shape, doing clearing exercises, working to keep negative thoughts out, etc) then you might suffer a breakdown somewhere along that highway. That’s equivalent to you not getting what you originally desired and something negative happened, like focusing on what might go wrong instead of what might go right.

The next thing to understand is that the weather and environment can play a big part in what’s happening/how successful you’re going to be on your trip. If it’s raining, you’re going to probably drive slower. If it’s night, you’ll have your headlights on. Things like that. This is equivalent to the global unconscious, including regional, national, and international. More specifically what I mean by this is if for example everyone in your city is expecting the worst with the economic downturn, it’s going to tend to be a self fulfilling prophecy. Or all the economists thinking the price of oil is going to go up for reasons a, b, and c, and then a short time later, it comes to pass. These aren’t things you can control, but they are things you can take advantage of if you know how. Maybe you move out of town or buy oil future contracts. Point being, while you can’t change the weather and environment, you can have control over how you respond to it.

Finally, because you have to share the road, you’re always going to be at the mercy of what other drivers are doing. When you first start travelling down the road to understanding and using the Law of Attraction in your life, it’s like you’re driving a sub-compact car. Most drivers on the road have a tendency to bully you and look down on you while you’re driving. Everyone else can have a big influence on your driving. As you become more experienced, it’s like you’re upgrading your vehicle that you’re travelling in. Soon you have more influence on the drivers around you and they tend to let you take the lead. You’re still going to have those drivers who drive recklessly and cut you off, but for the most part, people are going to respect you for the size of the vehicle you’re driving.

Now it’s possible, through no fault of your own, to get in an accident while being on the road. That’s just the chance you take for being on the road. Someone could run a light or ignore the signs and plow into you. This is the equivalent to someone elses desires interfering with yours. Is it a common occurance…? No… But it does happen more frequently in the congested areas. For example, if you’re in a very competitive office and multiple people are trying to get promoted to a new opening, you’re going to have to be very good with the Law of Attraction to be the one picked. But the more work you put into it, the more likely it is to go in your favor, just like if you take a bunch of driving courses, have gps and study the map of the city, you have a better way to get around or bypass the traffic jams that you know are coming your way. A more advanced student might use those maps to take a completely different road to a different and probably better destination that brings them more joy.

The farther you get from the beaten path, the smoother the driving and the less likely you are to get into an accident that derails your plans. Another thing to think about is that as you “upgrade” the vehicle you’re driving, as that vehicle gets larger, the less ‘impact’ other drivers are going to exert if they run into you with conflicting desires. Your vehicle allows you to shrug off those small hits and because of the size, has more momentum to get you where you want to go. Can you still be knocked off track? Yes. But is it going to be easy? As you get more and more skilled and have more and more faith in how it works, the more likely that answer is going to be no.

The Law of Attraction isn’t magic, although the effects can sometimes seem that way. It’s a framework to focus your being on bringing to you what you desire through work, ‘luck’, favorable circumstances, etc. It doesn’t work in isolation. Other peoples desires can come in direct opposition with yours, but with knowledge on how the process works, the willingness to put in the work required to make it work, and a little bit of attraction, miracles can take place. So don’t think of yourself as being in a bubble, but as a driver on the highway of life.
